What Is Thymosin Alpha-1? Benefits & Overview
Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1) is a 28-amino acid peptide naturally secreted by the thymus gland and one of the most studied immunomodulatory peptides available in Canada. Thymosin Alpha-1 activates dendritic cells, NK cells, and T-lymphocytes while modulating inflammatory cytokine production — making it central to immune restoration protocols, particularly in the context of chronic infection, immune suppression, and autoimmune dysregulation.
Its primary role is the maturation and activation of T-lymphocytes — the orchestrators of adaptive immunity — and the enhancement of dendritic cell function, making it a foundational tool in immunology and infectious disease research.
Thymosin Alpha-1 Benefits & Uses
- T-cell activation, differentiation, and maturation research
- Dendritic cell function and antigen presentation studies
- Antibody production and humoral immune response models
- Antiviral immune response research (hepatitis, influenza models)
- Immunosenescence and age-related immune decline models
- Vaccine adjuvant and immunopotentiation studies
- Cancer immunology and tumour immune surveillance models
How Thymosin Alpha-1 Works
Thymosin Alpha-1 binds Toll-like receptors (TLR2, TLR9) on dendritic cells and T-lymphocyte precursors, activating MyD88/NF-κB signalling to drive T-cell development in the thymus and periphery. It enhances Th1 cytokine production (IL-2, IFN-γ), shifts immune polarity toward cell-mediated immunity, and upregulates MHC class I/II expression on antigen-presenting cells — improving detection and clearance of infected or malignant cells. It also activates NK cells and augments antibody production by supporting CD4+ helper T-cell function.

Thymosin Alpha-1 Canada FAQs
Is Thymosin Alpha-1 approved anywhere as a drug?
Yes. Thymosin Alpha-1 (Zadaxin®, SciClone Pharmaceuticals) is approved in over 35 countries for hepatitis B and C treatment and is used adjunctively in oncology and post-surgical immunostimulation.
How does Thymosin Alpha-1 differ from Thymosin Beta-4 (TB-500)?
They are entirely different peptides despite the shared “thymosin” naming. Thymosin Alpha-1 is thymic-derived and immunomodulatory (T-cell activation, antiviral). TB-500 is a Thymosin Beta-4 analog involved in actin modulation, tissue repair, and angiogenesis. Their research applications are complementary but distinct.

Reconstitution & Dosing Guide
How to Reconstitute
Add 3.0 mL of bacteriostatic water to the vial. Inject the water slowly down the inside wall of the vial — do not inject directly onto the powder. Gently swirl until fully dissolved; do not shake. This yields approximately 3.33 mg/mL. Store the reconstituted vial at 4 °C and use within 28 days.
Low Starting Dose
- Dose per injection: 300 mcg — 9 units (0.09 mL) on a U-100 insulin syringe
- Frequency: Once daily, subcutaneous injection
- Cycle length: 8–12 weeks
Start at the lowest effective dose and adjust based on individual response. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before use.
